| State grants charter to Greensboro business bank
Greensboro is a step closer to getting its first business-only bank. The North Carolina Banking Commission has granted a charter to Premier Commercial Bank, a startup lender for small and medium-sized businesses. The bank said it expects to open in early 2008. Premier was founded by Frank Gavigan, a longtime Triad banker who was most recently senior credit officer at 1st State Bank in Burlington. It's joining a space that's become increasingly crowded in North Carolina since Raleigh's Paragon Commercial Bank became the state's first business-only bank in 1999. The Triad has yet to get in on the action, however, with most of the startups planting their headquarters in Charlotte or the Triangle. So far, Premier has raised more than $11 million in its initial stock offering, which began Aug.
Farmers National, Merchants National banks merge
KITTANNING, Pa. (AP) - The parent companies of Farmers National Bank and Merchants National Bank of Kittanning will merge next year. Merchants Bancorp of Pennsylvania and F&A Financial Corporation announced the merger this week. The merged bank will be called Farmers & Merchants Bank of Western Pennsylvania. Merchants Bank has been in business for 110 years and Farmers Bank for 123 years. Together, the banks have seven branches in Armstrong County, all of which will remain open after the March 31st merger. A new branch will open in Leechburg. I have something to write about in this section today & I really think it�s worth mentioning & then stopping for a minute or two to take it in. It hit me during the week exactly what some wrestlers go through schedule-wise on occasions. Sure, their weeks aren�t always as busy as what I am about to set out, but damn, in this case it is a sobering thought.
The 2 wrestlers that seemed to have worn the brunt of the workload over the 9 days I am about to highlight are Jeff Hardy & Ken Kennedy. So whatever you may think of them, give them an imaginary pat on the back for getting through such a period & putting in so much effort for us fans.

School board OKs modifications to uniform policy
AMITE - Tangipahoa Parish School Board members approved a few deviations from the student uniform policy and some new payroll policies Tuesday night.Student uniform deviations will be few and far between and won't stray far from the usual dress code.Once every 6 weeks students may be allowed to wear their school spirit shirt with the usual uniform pants as a reward for good behavior.Jeans may be worn with the uniform shirt twice a year as fundraisers for charity events. Staff members may also wear jeans for those events.Any other deviations would have to be requested in writing by school principals and approved in advance by Superintendent Mark Kolwe. .
