Roger Suihkonen retires after 34 years in the banking business

VIRGINIA � When Roger Suihkonen graduated from college he never saw himself working in a bank.

Yet, 34 years in the banking business later, Suihkonen, Wells Fargo District Community Bank President, is set to retire at the end of November with no regrets.

�All the decisions I�ve made, if I had to do it all over again I�d do it the same way,� Suihkonen said. �It�s been a great ride.�

Suihkonen, who has been president since 1985, starting working in Virginia at what would eventually become Wells Fargo � in the same Chestnut Street Building that houses the bank today � in 1974.

After graduating from college in 1971 with a degree in mathematics and physics, Suihkonen said he was considering a career in computers or the applied science arena.

Oritani Financial Corp. (MHC) to acquire Greater Community Bancorp

WASHINGTON TWP, N.J. and TOTOWA, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Kevin J. Lynch, Chairman, President and CEO of Oritani Financial Corp. (MHC) (“Oritani") (NASDAQ: ORIT ) the holding company for Oritani Savings Bank, announced that it has entered into a Merger Agreement providing for the acquisition of Greater Community Bancorp (“Greater Community") (NASDAQ: GFLS ) by Oritani. Greater Community is the holding company for Greater Community Bank. Under the terms of the Merger Agreement, Greater Community shareholders will be entitled to receive $21.40 per share or $187 million in aggregate deal value. The consideration mix will be 60% stock and 40% cash. The exchange ratio for the stock consideration will equal $21.40 divided by the Oritani market value as defined in the Merger Agreement, provided that the exchange ratio shall not be more than 1.4588 or less than 1.1935.


Bryn Mawr Bank shareholders favor an increase in available stock

Bryn Mawr Bank Corp., parent of community bank Bryn Mawr Trust Co., said Wednesday shareholders approved a proposal to increase the number of shares of common stock available to 100 million from 25 million.

The vote occurred at a special stockholders meeting on Tuesday.

The board of directors had recommended increasing the number of authorized shares for possible future financing of acquisitions, to permit stock splits or stock dividends, or to take advantage of other business opportunities that may arise.

Bryn Mawr Bank Co. (NASDAQ:BMTC - News) of Bryn Mawr, Pa., has $894 million in assets and $730 million in deposits spread over 15 branches in Philadelphia's western suburbs.

Wells Fargo No. 1 among lenders to small business

Wells Fargo Bank was the No. 1 lender to small businesses in the Reno-Sparks area last year with more than $106 million in loans, according to the bank.

Citing recently released Community Reinvestment Act data, Wells Fargo said it made more than 4,600 loans of less than $100,000 to Reno-Sparks business owners, a boost of more than 20 percent from 2005.

The bank also said it was the top lender to small businesses in low- and moderate-income neighborhoods in the Reno-Sparks area with more than 1,500 loans of less than $100,000 totaling more than $36 million.

Dann to host Breakfast Business

Finance reporter Corin Dann is to host Television One's Breakfast Business programme, it was announced today.

Dann was previously Radio New Zealand's economics correspondent, and was formerly a parliamentary reporter both for Radio New Zealand and Newstalk ZB.

TVNZ head of news and current affairs Anthony Flannery said Dann would join TVNZ in December and begin presenting Breakfast Business when the programme returns on Monday, January 21, 2008.
